The grounds of Pinnawala Central College were filled with the resonance of the Geta Bera and the spirit of heritage on March 23, 2026, as the school celebrated a landmark cultural milestone: the “Hisa Ves and Pahimpath Mangalyaya.”
This sacred ceremony marked the formal initiation of 32 dedicated students into the ranks of traditional Sri Lankan dancers. For these young performers, it was the culmination of years of disciplined training and the beginning of their journey as custodians of our national heritage.
A Journey of Discipline and Grace
The “Kala Eli Mangalyaya” is more than just a performance; it is a rite of passage.
- The Hisa Ves Thabeema: Male dancers were bestowed with the sacred Ves Thattuwa, the highest honor in Kandyan dance.
- The Pahimpath Paladeveema: Female dancers were adorned with the Panimpath, symbolizing their grace and proficiency in traditional movement.
By bringing these ancient rituals to life, Pinnawala Central College continues its mission to “gift the artists of the new generation to the nation,” ensuring that the Hela Narthana Kalawa (The Great Art of Hela Dance) remains a vibrant, living tradition.
